'Why does it matter?' (assuming you actually *want* an answer and I'm not sure you do)?
1) It's disrespectful. 2) It could be upsetting to many.
And I'm sure you still do ... we also used to have slaves, burn Witches, smoke in public places and not allow women to vote but luckily we have learned our lessons as we have evolved.
See above.
In *your* head you mean? Sounds like conspiracy BS to me (any disrespect taken given).
Would you walk into an Italian restaurant and call the waiter over with 'Oy wop' (or even 'Excuse me Wop') ... or use an Indian accent in a Indian Restaurant?
If you wouldn't, why wouldn't you? Maybe you think it's ok to refer to people like that behind their backs but not to their faces?

Ageism is simply stating a fact which applies to all. All animals lose some abilities as they age. Some more than others - just look at Trump.
Of course. The Germans simply murdered millions of Jews and other innocent minorities. But if they half observed the rules of war, must be gentlemen.
I don't think they had the opportunity. I don't know how much involvement they had in WW2 apart from being invaded by the Japanese. Which side were they on?
There's Chinese water torture; putting a rat under a metal bowl on your tummy and heating it; cutting bits off people until they die.
All we had was hanging, drawing and quartering.
Would you walk into a French restaurant and call out, "Boy!" (in French).
No, would you then?
Cheers, T i m
Huh?
Racism is simply stating a fact about the colour of someone's skin.

People are disrespectful to me all the time. And upsetting. On Radio 4 the other day there was a 'comedian' and one of his jokes had the punchline, "Because my wife died last year." That must have caused an enormous amount of upset, but no-one was bothered. However if you said the slightest thing that touches on race you're in big trouble. It's all wrong. Ordinary white heterosexual males are fair game, even if they're in mourning and just anything can make them get into the nearest layby and turn the engine off and howl. I accept that, but what I don't accept is that the rules change depending on whether you're in a protected group or not.

No, strictly it's making false gemeralisations basd on someones 'race'. The problem comes when it's true generalisations.
Really? So there was no racism in the Brexit debate?

As did the Russians with the Poles and also German civilians (ref the Rape of Berlin).

What a sheltered life you lead.
Some people complained about East European migrants, but they are nearly all white anyway.
It's because old white hetero blokes are regarded as fair game by the likes of the BBC.
Oh dear. You've heard how snowflakes can allegedly be 'triggered' by hurty remarks? Think along those lines, but factor in a genuine sensitivity caused by a traumatic life event. It wouldn't have been so bad if it had been a good joke well telled, but it was really crude.
Bill
No, to them (racists) they are all just 'foreigners', no matter what their skin colour.
I've heard the same old mantra from them all too often ...
"They come over here, get a free council flat, car, 40" HD TV, use our NHS, bring their kids and family over and live on our benefits ... and we can't get our kids in schools or get an appointment and the doctors ..."
Keep your ears open as you walk about or talk to enough 'ordinary' people and you will be guaranteed to hear that exact script.
The 'they' they refer to are a tiny minority of the people 'coming here' but they use the world 'illegal' without getting the point of what they have just said. Or 'asylum seeker' for that matter, without realising what one would be and why they might be seeking asylum here (like seeing 'Made in England' on the remains of the explosive casing that blew their house up and killed half of their family).
Or 'migrant worker' for that matter, where they 'come here' for a few years and then go home or somewhere else.
Racism is often born out of ignorance and a lack of exposure to peoples from around the world (isolationism / Little Englanders).
Ironic really, considering 'The British Empire'.

Any generalization is bound to be true in part.
The problem starts when so many think it is true of all.
So you are an innocent victim you mean?
Yup.
I get that, we have just been though such ourselves (and you don't expect to outlive your children ...). ;-(
So what do you want to happen, no comedian you might listen to to tell any joke that might upset anyone who might be particularly sensitive to something, like the snowflakes you refer to?
See, the only thing you could be considered being specifically victimised by is by someone telling a joke to a wide audience and you being specifically being vulnerable to a bit of it because of your own personal situation and not because you are old, white, heterosexual or a male?
And had you heard the joke 'before' it happened, you may still not have found it funny but would it have upset you? How is the comedian to know?
Then why were you listening to it?
Mate, I get where you are coming from, it's s*1t sometimes, but I really can't see why you don't have the same rights to be 'upset' as the snowflakes (by anything) but can't see how have any less rights or are being victimised in any way (as you might if you were Black and someone referenced that negatively in a joke)?
Was the joke aimed at 'the people who had recently lost someone' specifically?
Cheers, T i m
