I have a trial lens set and make my own prescriptions. There's nothing confusing about that, especially doing only spherical correction. I have astigmatism but most of the time don't wear glasses, so my brain is used to the astigmatism. The classic (documented centuries ago) mistake that optometrists make is over-correcting for astigmatism on each eye independently.

Laser speckle is a good way to precisely verify your focal lengths and make a prescription, if you don't have a trial lens set.

It's hard to compare; I've never looked at the produce at our Costco. We eat apples and bananas. I buy frozen cherries to put in my yogurt.

We don't eat that much meat. For our very occasional beef purchases I'm happy to go to the butcher shop. Costco's skinless, boneless chicken breasts are too big--they're tough and stringy.

Arm and Hammer unscented. It's the only kind we buy.

If I shop the sales, I can get TP as cheaply as at Costco, and its quality is exactly what we want.

I had macular hole surgery a few years back on my dominant eye and the sulfur hexafluoride gas tends to hasten cataract formation. I've been kicking the cataract surgery can down the road so my dominant eye is also the less functional one. That leads to some interesting visual effects.

I have a macular hole in one eye too. My doc did a retinal peel and it improved some. Did your macular hole fully heal? I have a bit of residual blind spot.

Both eyes have plastic lenses. Both have had vitrectomies and retina repairs. Both developed secondary cataracts which were YAG lasered to punch a hole in the cloudy back of the lens capsule. That takes about one minute.

Do the cataract surgery. It takes about 10 minutes and is no big deal. You'll be startled by the improvement in contrast.

I wouldn't say a blind spot as much as a little distortion. If I look at an Amsler grid some of the squares aren't. In a scope reticle the cross hairs are a little curvy but nothing is missing. It's nothing like the bottom illustration,

The surgery itself wasn't bad. However my collar bone and shoulder blade have had a hard life and laying back in a dentist chair gets painful after a while. At least with the dentist I can move a little. That memory is why I'm reluctant to do the cataract although it's a much faster procedure and shouldn't be a problem. At least that doesn't require the three days face down. After that I backed into a snow drift with zero depth perception as the gas was absorbed.
