USB Data Cable

I would be a bit surprised if you need to use a cable on a new car. A few years ago, yes but now, I would expect either Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

Senior Management’s Aygo is a 2021 and that needed a cable to use CarPlay ( or the Android equivalent) etc but later Toyotas don’t.

Have you checked if there are other phones listed as having been connected? It is possible the dealer tested the system using their phone and it only allows a limited number. My Rav has a system which has a ‘priority’ ( my word) driver and this can cause some ‘fun’ when trying to add another device.

IF despite my comment re not needing a cable you discover you do, you can buy a plug in gizmo for about £10- £20 which plugs into the USB port. You can then link to it without a cable. It detects your phone once set up and the system works as it should. On our Aygo, it works with two phones- at least on Apple. The link uses Wi-Fi so your Bluetooth is free so you could use your dash cam. The bad news is, if your system is already wireless, these gizmos aren’t compatible.

All the reviews and "howtos" say cable only but it connected via Bluetooth and allows access to my contacts and the 'phone for calls. However, it doesn't allow Android Auto to work, it needs a cable for that (I found one that works using suck it and see). I think I'd rather use the USB socket for my music thumbdrive than Android Auto.

In theory the Dashcam allows access via the infotainment system but n go so far, I will speak to the dealer on Monday and seek help

Does a picanto have Android Auto? If so, does it have *wireless* Android Auto?

A must-buy for that situation

Many nextbase cameras have wifi for the connection to the phone (for adjusting settings and for offloading video if you don't want to pull the SD card).

I think the dashcam is usually by default configured as a wireless access point rather than a client - so the phone joins the cameras wifi network.

I doubt whether there is anyrhink wrong with the cable. It's more likely that you need to sort out the USB connection mode. It's probably defaulting to charging mode, but there should be other modes available such as data transfer, etc. Google for USB Connection Mode for further information.

Interesting, I have an endoscope and a wi-fi clock that works like that, will try tomorrow :-)

My car has two USB sockets on the centre console but they are marked differently. One is power only, the other has power and data. If you have two sockets check them closely as they may be similar.

You should be able to use one of the adaptors I mentioned to add wireless functionality.

I bought one off Amazon about a year or two back which works fine but is a bit bulky - or more exactly dangles on a lead. It was about £20.

Smaller ones are now available which don’t have a lead. I bought one off AliExpress for about £8 on offer. It arrived, I put it to one side to try later, and can’t find it 😀

Enjoy the Picanto. Senior Management had one for 8 years or so and loved it. Eldest bought one as her first car and still has it.

You normally need to push and hold the wifi button on the front camera to get it into a mode where it will operate as a wifi access point.

(The phone app will guide you through the process)
