Can anyone tell me how to how to remove the complete assemly of this old lock which is attached to my front door. I need to know how to remove the lock assembly as I cannot remove the rest until this is removed, because it protudes on both sides of the door. The lock is about 30 years old. I have read some of the suggestions on previous messages here, but with no luck. Mike.

Not sure about Union, but if it's like a Yale nightlatch you remove 2 screws on the edge of the door and then the casing on the inside face unhooks from a plate screwed on the inside face of the door. When this casing is off you can remove the plate and release the cylinder and keyhole on the outside face. HTH
Is it an oval key part that protudes both sides? If so the barrel can be removed as follows,
remove side plate, this will expose another long screw in the center, remove this also. rotate key half a turn and give the barrel a tap, it should now come out.
Ask at a lock smith for a replacment barrel, they may be able to show you how it fits.
