Trying to unsubscribe from Microsoft365

I seem to have managed to inadvertently subscribe to MS365, and have just been billed with a substantial sum for a year's subscription.

For the last umpteen years I seem to have managed without MS365, and would like to cancel that subscription. I have tried gong down the 'unsubscribe' route, but it seems to go round in circles in an attempt to confound any attempts to unsubscribe. I particular, it asks me to sign in with the Microsoft account I used to purchase my subscription. and that it's important to use that account. But I wasn't aware I had 'purchased a subscription', so don't have the account name/number.

Can anyone tell me how to cancel the subscription, in words of one syllable? Will there be any disastrous or unforeseen consequences of unsubscribing?

You should be able to tell, based on which email they sent the M365 invoice to?

Actually taken from an account? Or just received an email claiming to be related to MS365 ?

Indeed. Could be a phishing attempt. Check your bank details to see if you have actually been billed.
