TRV's Recommendations please?

£5 and replace every 5 years, or £25 and replace every 15?

It's a minefield! Recommendations gratefully accepted.

Cheers

I've always used Invensys/Drayton TRV4s and found them to be pretty reliable, generally lasting at least 10 years. I have a few still working OK at 17 years.

I installed Drayton TRV4 valves when I installed our system in 1997, they have all worked fine since then.

I know of installations with them in that are well over 10 years old.

They are also neater looking than some of the others. I'd use them again.

I'd go for a decent make as Andy says. I used IIRC Homebase ones, and when they needed replacement after about 7 years was forced to use the same again due to the fittings being 'non standard' - they used a male bush as part of one compression fitting. Then a couple started leaking after only a few years so I bit the bullet and altered all the pipework to take Drayton - and they weren't 5 times the price.

Too soon to say how long they'll last, though.

I used Drayton. I bought about 10 of them at the same time as the radiators from a small plumbing shop, and I think they were £10 each (would have been more to buy one by itself though). Heating was installed in stages, but I think the longest installed is 4 years now with none of them causing any problems.

So TRV4 wins hands down.

Good name and track record.

Cheers people. Most grateful :))

I installed Drayton TRV4's all round. I'm very impressed with them; additionally they're silent in operation (though I don't know if noise is a problem with other TRV's - I had some cheap B&Q lock-shields that were noisy).

The only comment I would make is that they're probably not so good for somebody with a poor grip/arthritis as they can be a bit stiff and the bit you turn is chrome with no grip.
