- Not all 68mm guttering systems are created equal.
- Floplast 68mm downspout brackets are very fragile. Of the pack of 10 I bought yesterday, I broke 4.

What are they made of? Are you sure they have not been stored in some place like the surface of the moon! Brian
Indeed. But on one of the manufacturers websites they had handily provided a compatibility chart. Can't remember which one it was.
For total non-compatibility go for Osma (if you can afford it).
According to their website, their squareline guttering is 114/65 mm but the half-round is 112/68. Which one are you using ?.
Googleing "68mm guttering compatibility"
comes up with many hits with the word compatibility but finding it in the document is not so easy.
Ah, try this :-
Neither. :o)
You should try fitting them in January :(
Come to think of it though, leaving them in a bucket of hot water might be just as worthwhile in a typical English summer ;)
Bugger, I never thought of that. Fitted another 7 today, didn't break any.
The rainwater diversion project is complete. All we need now is some rain.
Are there any make PVC gutters not compatible with propped against ladders, and are the manufacturer decals sufficiently visible, that I can check in the last few seconds before something gives?
There you are then: clearly a faulty batch yesterday!
And some fish ready to eat up the Asian tiger mosquitoes?
Well, if it works, the pond will be restocked with fish. There were fish, but they didn't survive the pond drying up last summer! The 200 litre drum is covered, and if it "catches" mosquitoes, I'll do what I've done before; pour a little cooking oil onto the surface.
Yes, a few drops is all that's needed.
Good stuff.
And IIRC you only need one more pond for an old-style carp farm/the first monastery of the Huge Order ;)
*grin*
Except the monks used to eat the carp, and I think they're disgusting.
Depends on the monk....
What is the idea behind this Tim? is it that the mozzies cant break through the oil film or maybe they use up all the oxygen in the water?
Just curious
Bob
The larval stage of mosquitoes hang below the surface of the water so they can breath. The oil film floating on the water suffocates them.
You're just not hungry enough!
And the reason is that they hang from the surface because of surface tension. Oil has more or as it might be less surface tension, so the mozzy's tail sinks through the oil layer.
Thanks! Bob

That was handy, thanks. I've got replica cast-iron guttering in plastic missing an end cap and didn't know what to ask for (it's the Polypipe Soverign Ogee). Now I can get what I need.
