Dave

Odd. advances to the next message for me.

here is just moves down the page but never on to the next message

If the message is less than a page, it does...

Its a hangover from the old text base unix mail/news systems

Here, the spacebar mostly works, but fails sometimes, and I have to resort to using N.

Thank again. I've not had a chance yet to look at that; I shall, though.

Aha! Yes, it turns out it's the same for me.

Tat's about the level of it, I logged a bug a couple of years ago, it languished, I don't think they've got a fix

You can drag the next / previous buttons to the toolbar by going into View / Toolbars / Customise.

Easier on some versions than on others.

Thank you! That worked beautifully.

It's a pity that - as with so much other software - there isn't a complete User Guide manual available for Thunderbird (online or off-). Having to search out, or be lucky enough to be given, extremely useful stuff like this is so hit-and-miss.

You are welcome.

I steer clear of late versions of Thunderbird. The aboe procedure seems to work better with older versions.

A tip: If you don't want Thunderbird to update itself (I don't, for the reasons stated above), you should go into...

Control Panel / Programs and Features

... and uninstall the Mozuilla Thunderbird updating app.
