Swish Autoglide motor failed (finally)

I bought the first one in about 1995 and it worked fine for years until one I got home and the motor had popped out the locking clamp, rotated and fallen on the carpet where it must have just buzzed away for an unknown length of time.



By then Swish had sold the brand to Silent Gliss and it has been obsolete for many years, motors are no longer available. Luckily B&Q sold off their unsold stock for peanuts so I got another control unit and motor and silly money. The gearbox in that motor has now failed. The gear teeth are black plastic molded onto brass centres and one has simply fallen off in two semi circles.



The motor is marked "ITT automotive 24V 404.095 31/95" and I have found a site in Switzerland that has 16 new ones for sale that look almost identical.

The only difference is the marking 47/97 which I suspect is the gearing and the shaft is too long and lacks the two flats on either side. Nothing that an angle grinder cannot 'fix' though. Also three wires, mine only has two.



Trouble is this site has many scam warnings and you have to create an account.



Has anyone bought anything online from Switzerland (or is the seller in Italy) since Brexit ?.

I'd have thought it's a date code: week 31 of 1995 for yours, week 47 of

1997 for theirs. Could you swap bits over from yours?

As usual it's only as good as the specific seller.

Not I. If they refuse to send it there are forwarding companies providing a local address to send it to, and they ship it on.

The seller is in Wallisellen which is a suburb of Zurich. It looks like the Italian is just because you have the website in the Italian version.

I suspect you're going to have to send them a message and ask what they're prepared to do. It looks like Tutti is a sort of classifieds site where you're expected to talk to the seller to arrange pickup, rather than an ebay where there's shipping involved. But you could do something like arrange a courier collection from their address and that would take care of the import paperwork too, although there might be no comeback if they ran off with the money.

Probably too much hassle, so it's time to have a re-think about how to automate the curtains,(if at all - which will mean all new rails and curtains which is a job that I prefer to avoid until absolutely necessary).
