suitable locks for a garage door

Hi,

I have an up and over garage door with bog standard "locking mechanism" comprising of a small key lock and two side metal bars.

I'm conscious of how poor the secutity of the locking mechanism is.

So I'd like to fit some extra locks. The only proviso is that the lock must be able to be operated by key on both sides of the garage door.

I don't mind fitting said locks to the actual garage door (of metal construction) or to the door frame (which is made of wood.)

Regards,

Stephen.

How subtle do you want it to be?

There's umpteen variations on the padlock-and-hasp basic concept, from basic trad hasps up to the f*ck-off great big ones (sold for bikers, mainly) that bolt to the ground in front of the door.

Whatever you do, though, remember that it'll only slow the truly determined down.

Well I've googled and come across this:

formatting link

That looks like the ticket as I can lock anmd unlock from either side (garage has a lockable back door)

There is a You Tube vid as well showing how they are fitted.

Stephen.

They have crap insecure locks because they are usually crap insecure doors. No point in having a wonderful lock on a bit of a tin door.

Only more secure solution is a decent roller shutter.
