Compression stopcocks (MDPE with insert / copper etc). Can be had for a few quid in brass, or over 20 quid in "gunmetal". What is the difference, and when would you need one and not the other ? Also, where can you get replacement 25mm olives to suit ? Thanks, Simon.

You use gunmetal for corrosive or polluted water or where the item is to be in contact with acidic or heavily waterlogged soils. Brass may be subject to dezincification under those conditions.
I would try a plumbers' merchant.
