Screwfix filtering/censoring reviews

On two occasions I have tried to add a review to an item I purchased and I have yet to see my review. There has been no communication with explanation either.

My review wasn't overly negative although perhaps mentioning the price paid might have been the cause![1]

So beware that reviews are censored, presumably only negative ones.

[1] I only mentioned the price I paid and not the doubling of price since!

Showerdoctor may be filtering reviews too.

The one I posted 3 years ago stating that the mira fixed price service was cheaper than buying the parts is still there, but the new one where I stated the fixed price service was now £30 less hasn't appeared. Maybe I didn't give enough stars?

Screwfix is pissing me off at the moment. I posted two questions a couple of days ago, then hours later I got an email from Screwfix to say that they didn't meet the guidelines. Eh?!!!

Then I asked over the phone whether I could view an item before purchase that is only available with click and collect, i.e. not available off the shelf in any of the stores within a 50 mile radius. She said I'd have to buy the item, then decide on collection whether it was suitable and then request an immediate refund if it wasn't.

Why on earth can't they just deliver the thing to the local store for inspection? Heck knows, they've got trucks buzzing around all over the country delivering and picking up stuff.

I think censorship of reviews is getting common.

I try not be a cycnic but it's got to a stage where I can only believe those negative reviews which managed to sneak through. I often ignore all positive reviews no matter how many there are.

I bet you've used an innocent word with an alternative meaning. They have software which scans for words they don't like. A few years ago they rejected a review which I wrote about a garden arbour - because I had used the word "erection" when commenting on the assembly process!

Yes, the same happened to me a little while ago. I replied, asking them to spell out in exactly what way my question didn't meet their guidelines. It was obviously an automatic process because as soon as a real person looked at my question they decided it was ok and published it.

I've been looking for a travel alarm clock for my wife all morning and Amazon is rammed with shill 5* reviews for crappy Chinese clocks. They're easy enough to spot because of the appalling English.

Wirecutter's reviews include looking at what other sites have awarded the product and they once noticed a particular product had something like 1,000 five star reviews on Amazon and very few negative comments.

It struck them as suspicious that so many people had even bought this product at all. Never mind that so many had allegedly reviewed it.

They are not the only ones. I wrote a review about a set of steps I bought from the Wicks web site. In the review I said the first pair that were delivered were damaged in transit, no doubt because they were not properly wrapped. The sides of the steps are glass fibre and so easily scratched. I had to reject them when they arrived.

The review was rejected probably because I commented on the quality of service rather than the product itself.

Most sites do this. I think it starts with people bad mouthing everything and then gradually goes on from there. This is why, in my view, one should never trust a web sites reviews or one which does comparisons and routes you to a given site as they probably have a commission to protect. Brian

On the other hand, you have moronic posters who write sodding long reviews which have f*ck all to do with the item, but are grumbling about packaging, or courier problems, or inconsequential details about the item (i.e. it's not the reviewers favourite colour) ... it's an irritation about Amazon.

Try putting a polite truthful negative review on a doctors surgery and see how far you get with NHS Choices.
