Safety recalls question

Sep 10, 2025 1 Replies

My daughter has a third-hand heat-pump tumble dryer that has just had a safety warning issued (potential to ignite).

We’ve checked the serial number and it’s definitely a machine from the affected batch. When we go into the website to organise a repair it has unanswerable questions that must answered in order to book a repair (date of purchase etc.) There’s no option to say “don’t know”.

Based on the serial number it needs a fix. Can Curry’s (from whom the letter about the recall indirectly came) weasel out of a repair or are they obliged to fix it even if it’s on its third owner?

Needless to say there’s no handy telephone number to call included with the letter.

I would try calling the manufacturer's technical assistance / warranty line. eg if it's the Candy recall:

The government product safety notices are pretty stern:

and I doubt Candy would be able to wriggle out of it by saying you weren't the original purchaser. For one thing, if it was a Grenfell type scenario it wouldn't matter if the appliance starting the blaze was first or second owner.
