Replacement baskets in Lamona (Beko) dishwasher

Our dishwasher is over 10 years old now.

The pegs/fingers/whatever in the upper and lower baskets/drawers, which hold the crockery, are wearing out and some are part broken. I assume that more will go fairly soon.

However a replacement full size integrated Beko dishwasher starts at £279.

£180 to repair a 10+ year old dishwasher doesn't seem good value compared to brand new.

I suspect we will run it into the ground.

Lamona is a whitelabel for Howdens. If you can work out the OEM model number you may be able to find them cheaper - eg somebody breaking a used machine. They source different lines from different manufacturers, but it's usually at the cheaper end (Whirlpool, Beko, Electrolux).

I look after a 38 year old Miele which is still going strong. I wonder how long that Beko would last?

(Although I suspect the Howdens special is not the highest of quality to begin with)

It is a Beko, but haven't tracked down the exact model. Sourced from Howdens.

I have been told before that a lot of brand engineering goes on on white goods, so it may well be that these trays are almost generic. Besides, I feel sure that with some sort of material like araldite one might to be able to make pegs that are probably stronger than the el cheapo plastic they were made of. Even superglue mixed with a suitable powder can be surprisingly strong. Brian

  1. Ebay for replacements
  2. Many dishwashers are generic clones
  3. Placing random grills can cover a fair range of holes where things have rusted away.
  4. Baskets can be welded. Treat afterwards to prevent prompt rusting.
