I'm in the process of repairing a 30s oak window frame which has been deeply weathered. It needs to be painted (sad, I know) so I need to fill the deep grain before priming - any recommendations for an exterior grain filler?

Replying to my own post in case it's of use to anyone else ...
I used Toupret Wood Repair Filler. Very easy to mix and apply, fills grain well, sands easily, paints well. No idea whether it will decide to fall out in a year or two, but I'm pleased with it at the moment and will be using it for all future painting.
