Recess shower cubicle design help

Hi,

i'm looking to have two shower cubicles built in a current extension. I want stud walls with a stone tray but with a rail for a shower curtain rather than a glass door. How should the front be made so the curtain can fall behind the tray and water won't run from the tray outside the cubicle?

I'm planning to use aqua panel and tiles within the cubicle.

Why on earth would anyone use a curtain on a shower cubicle? That's just nasty. They're bad enough on baths...

Stick a gutter around the bottom so it doesn't matter?

Because the water is so hard around here it stains glass panels. Previous shower screens have become stained very quickly despite our best efforts, we eventually gave up trying to clean it.

Citric or acetic acid? Or is it something other than lime in the water?

Certainly if it's normal common or garden limescale, white vinegar (aka acetic acid+flavourings) will clean it off, and is relatively non-hazardous (not to mention cheap) compared to specialist descaling cleaners.

How about an opaque screen? Anything's got to be better than a curtain...

Surely it's just a case of positioning the rail for the curtain far enough in so that water running off the bottom lands in the shower tray? Which in turn may mean you need a deeper shower tray than anticipated, to allow for that.

You can get spring-loaded rails which you can fit between two opposing walls (ie like yours) without any screws etc; that would let you position the rail optimally by trial and error.

Opaque screens are hard to come by, there are some nice shower curtains at disposable prices in Ikea.

Now there's an oxymoron if ever I saw one!

I'm getting the impression you don't like them? A bad childhood experience? Hehe

I dislike shower curtains too, but I noticed John Lewis today had some dimpled heavy PVC curtains, which looked less likely to get as mouldy and clingy as the lightweight polyester ones are apt to do.

Probably Hitchcock's fault!
