Easy to fix or scrap it.... Light stays on but I'd rather have it turn off as per when it was new.

They usually say they're not suitable for CFL lamps. It's worth a look inside in case it's just a corroded track on the PCB or something obvious, but in general once they're dead they're dead.
If you have electronics skills, and dont mind wasting a fair bit of time on it you might get it done. Just replace it, its not an easy no- skill fix.
