The two times I tried to buy from HP, the parts were stupidly expensive. One of them I wanted five of, and (long story) I ended up getting them really cheap somewhere.

The other was a microserver PSU, which they wanted £100 for. Took the old one out and found it was a standard ITX PSU. I had some ex-equipment spares, just needed to crimp on a couple of different connectors.

They should all meet a minimum expected performance. However that does not mean they will necessarily be the same (vis, some screens being gloss finish, while others matt).

So yes a spacebar ought to work all over! :-)

Yup, no guarantee that won't be the case. Although IME for things like laptop spares they are not usually too bad.

Indeed. Also one of my pet irritations with branded IT hardware - the tendency to "value add" to the engineering. Take what could be a standard COTS part, and fiddle with it in such a was as to render it subtly incompatible.

I suppose a repair for a customer where the keyboard had an inferior feel to it might be acceptable. If the old one was broken in some way.

In my case I simply couldn't live with the inferior feel - even although I'm happy with a totally different type of keyboard as on this desktop.

And paying £25 rather than £12 to get something to original spec doesn't seem that bad to me.
