Someone on a local forum received the following email
" Like anything mechanical that's getting old, an electricity meter can stop working properly.Occasionally, old electricity meters can cause serious problems - they can overheat, causing a risk of fire. We don't want this to happen, so please get in touch with us to book an appointment."
I would have thought that the only way a meter could overheat would be as the result of faulty connections in and out " - a problem that would soon become apparent.
Also weren't all electric meters updated to digital readout meters only a few years ago, in any case ?
Having telephoned they were told " 29% of electricity meters in England experienced overheating to setting on fire in 2020".
This seemed above what they expected so "they selected to have a replacement conventional meter costing them £125."
Is this a con ? I thought meters were always free ?
