Waht search criteria did you use? Parcels /package box?

Try extra large letter box. There are a couple on this page that stick out less and have a 40mm slot.

If you defined your requirements for the slot it might be easier to answer. I rely on the postie & couriers knowing where to put any oversize parcels if they won't fit through my letterbox.

Basically an innocent looking waterproof box just out of sight.

You won't find any with slots much larger than this since otherwise someone can reach inside and take your mail.

In the spirit of true DIY you could fold your own from sheet steel ;-)

I think you have spotted a gap in the market. So you need to design and build a prototype, and get them made in bulk, and customers for them might well buy them in large numbers. Of course you'd have to make it in a flat-pack form so it could be delivered through a conventional small letter-box, because purchasers obviously wouldn't have anything more than that. That might be the tricky bit of the design. :-)

How small can the slot be which will still fit the bill?

In our old house I fitted quite a large letter flap - it was brushed aluminium and just happened to fit the bill when I was looking for a new one but I've also seen them enamelled white.

The entire front is the letter flap and opens outwards. It would also double as a knocker if you like - ours was sprung but I've also seen them without the spring.

It is mounted in a slim rectangular frame - about 1cm wide - so I opened up the slot in the front door to the size of the opening in the frame.

I've come across the same flap on numerous occasions, so it must be a fairly standard item. All you would need to do would be to open up the slot in the front door to suit.

but ours didn't have the draught proofing - I fitted a similar unsprung flap on the inside with a draughtproof seal round the edge.

A quick glance on the web shows lots of similar products but most seem to have a plastic frame rather than aluminium - it was also a lot cheaper than any I've come across today - I don't think I paid more than a couple of pounds for mine!

That one looks interesting and is extremely well-priced. I discounted it because it may not resist rain very well. It opens with a hinge on the lower edge and has a small surrounding lip. Some reviews mention water getting in.

Those are really lovely. But the prices are far too high. Thanks for posting the link. It may be cheaper to get someone to install an extra big letterbox flap on the front door.

You are overlooking 3D printing which, as we repeatedly get told, can manufacture almost anything!

Arranging delivery of a 3D printer that fits through the letter box is another matter. :)

TBH I came across them while looking to see in what sizes letter box apertures went up to, with a view suggesting getting an outdoor abs electrical enclosure like this screwfix one

Would bring the cost down but need a degree of diy.

That's the one I was thinking of when I said some stick out too too far. It's 385mm in their spec: about 15 inches.

If they can print a house or a car then a mailbox should be doable. ;-)

Hmm, I think all the parts from mine would fit though out letter box (especially if posted individually or in 'letterbox friendly' lumps. ;-)

I'm probably going to print a new external exhaust grille for the tumble dryer and thinking of printing some 1/76th scale (road) traffic lights to run from an Arduino Mini for my BIL's OO train layout (if anyone here has already done such and has the design / files (dennis?))?
