While I'm all in favour of planting trees for a whole host of reasons, they are slow to grow and hence slow to absorb CO2, so the 'green' idea that they will solve the CO2 'problem' is very misguided IMO (I realise that's not what you're suggesting though, not least because there is no CO2 problem).
Most of the problems with "solutions" is that people want ones that will allow them to continue as before *as well as* undoing the changes of the past decades. And that is fertile ground for scammers and lying politicians.
Not in the UK, of course, where Mrs Thatcher closed the coal mines to save the planet (even though Labour before her closed more).
I appreciate Boris was just having one of his little jokes, but by making this remark he's unconsiously lending credence to the erroneous notion that co2 causes global warming.
