OT: So, we're all old and miserable, and trends change, but....

Just looking for opinions,

I borrowed my son's car a few years ago, cracked it up and the stereo came on, all drugs, bitches and violence. I turned it off mindful that things 'entertainment' wise had got worse than I thought and lost some respect for him.

A friend found some videos on her only recently reached teenage daughter's phone yesterday and among them was a rendition of 'Drum and Bass Father' by Devilman, it's an absolute disgrace. Among the lyrics which are largely based around drugs, violence and penis size....

"When I have sex I like to push it in harder Strangle the bitch with her i-phone charger"

Is that even vaguely appropriate, how is this shit getting published? Why does anyone listen to it? Who do you complain to?

And yeah, they shouldn't all have fancy smartphones should they and the content should be scrutinised more closely I suppose? I bet many don't realise this stuff is out there.

Mary Whitehouse?

Although perhaps not so explicit in the language the same were mentioned in songs of 20 to 40 years ago and even in the music halls of the early

20th century.

Yeah, all is forgiven... Maybe not quite.

It's the misogyny that surprises me, i'm not sure how they get away with it in the current climate.

Because so many in authority are so 'anti-woke' too?

Don't despair. Kids often grow up into decent humans. ;-)

Yes, and some of them are even forced to leave a country behind to avoid punitive Socialist taxation levels.

That was my thought.

And you have to pay for health insurance on top. Most US people I know do not regard the US as a low tax country.

Of course its out there, but some of the lyrics are meant as irony and not really serious. The ones that are definitely gang and weapon based are not heard here, but I noticed yesterday that even james Blunt has the f word in one of his songs, so I'd say it is just changing times.

After all you can only warn the younger ones and they have to make their own mistakes in the knowledge you give them, but peer pressure is a thing and always has been. Mis spent youth etc. There is a reaction from young chaps against the women equality and respect thing right now, but its a minority, and usually those from cultures from the Indian sub continent, and Arabs. STOP PRESS!

Now it's the "metaverse". Adults' avatars molesting kids' avatars through virtual reality.

(That's from the NSPCC natch. Methinks they are short of donations to finance senior management's cars and pensions.)

But still expect to freeload on the things which make the UK a pleasant place to live.

Probably like the UK. Only look at direct taxation.

Operations for many routine procedures were effectively suspended for the duration of the pandemic (and to be fair, one can understand why).

The local GP practice here has only just re-opened its doors and allowed callers inside. It has been normal for GP consultations to be done by telephone appointment.

Good try. You obviously follow the Bojo statistical model.

Now look at waiting times for treatment for serious conditions post 2010 until before Covid. Very easy to find.

Reply to
Dave Plowman (News

That is not my impression at all.

The question ("Wonder what...") was about the length of NHS waiting times (for treatment) as they are *now* without any qualification by reference to the past. That necessarily refers to and includes all the delay engendered by the pandemic.

Are you claiming that surgical procedures have NOT been delayed due to Covid? That would be big news to many people of my generation.

As an aside, I'm just about to have by first blood test since 2019.

Please explain what you are talking about, if necessary, with reference to reliable independent statistics on NHS spending year by year.

I thought even you would be able to find official statistics for those?
