This must be a good one for the record book.

On 19 July, a small package was posted to me from Witney, Oxfordshire, and was sent RM 48-hr Tracked, posted at 13:15. By 5 October, it had made it to Swindon. It was finally delivered to me yesterday.

There was no comment made by Royal Mail, I have let the sender know the event history in case she wants to pursue a claim against Royal Mail. But if she did, would she get anything? The total cost of the contents was about £10. But if she paid for Tracking, should that not be worth something?

some of their tracked options don't offer tracking during its travels, only after it's delivered

"Is there compensation available for this service?

There is no compensation available on Royal Mail 24/48."

So what is the point of it, I wonder?

Primarily I suspect because some platforms like eBay and now Amazon Marketplace insist on tracked delivery if the seller wants any protection, and their definition of tracked is that there's proof of delivery. Getting to watch the parcel bounce around the delivery offices doesn't add a lot as far as those customers are concerned.

Useful if you want proof of delivery.

The most she would get is the cost in 1st class stamps from my experience. Brian

She has decided not to bother, I believe.
