OT: radio on freeview in Scotland

Any of the generally very knowledgeable users of this group tell me what has happened to bbc radio channels on freeview here in Scotland. Initially all the channels (I am interested in) gave way to Alba (*^^%$£!! it). Then recently I noticed Radio 4 and a few others were returned 24/7. Now it has disappeared again. I cannot find anything to tell me when and why. Radio Times still indicates it should be there 24/7.

TIA Frank

In Scotland, BBC Radio 4, 4 extra, BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra, BBC Asian Network and BBC Radio Scotland will be taken off-air during the evenings w hen BBC Alba is on air. This is to allow the BBC to cater for the extra Com monwealth Games coverage, when it is likely they will be changing bitrate a llocations for the channels. The move takes place on the 16th July until af ter the Games, and temporarily reverses the changes that took place in Dece mber to Freeview radio in Scotland.

You might consider getting a cheap satellite installation. Pretty well all radio services available on that at all times.

If they who run this travesty of t a system actually looked at what people do though, they would chuck off crap channels and keep radio on there, that is bbc radio, not crap fm and brain dead radio, or crapital. etc. OK so they are cash cows, I do understand, but what is the place coming to when money trumps what the public want, escpecially as the crap stuff nearly all has other outlets and streams better than the bbc. Better in this case means reliably not in quality terms.

I guess you up there need to get freesat instead. Brian

Most of those you mention are commercial channels and likely wouldn't be there if they didn't get enough listeners to pay for it.

Please don't even joke about that, there's already an STV Glasgow channel and I cringe every time I skip past it on the programme guide, the worst possible advert for the City.

I'd happily see junk like this scrapped (plus nebulous planned BBC +1 and expanded HD services) if we could get radio via freeview back 24/7.

On a separate note, I still don't understand how ITV got away with putting CITV on a Com mux when of course it should be on a PSB one.
