OT: QuoteCollapse in Thunderbird

I've been using a Thunderbird extension called "quotecollapse", but after last night's Thunderbird update it no-longer works. Is there anything else that will collapse all the guff that people quote when they reply to something without snipping?

You might find it's available when TB gets to version 82, but you might not...

Yep, that is why my version of Thunderbird is 68.12.0. It was a pain in the arse to roll back as it wouldn't use my profile, which had by then been updated by the newer version. Possibly you could restore a profile from backup.

I decided to install a separate v68 TBird but, as you said, it would not use my profile. I created a new profile but something wasn't happy because it wasn't saved when I shut down. I'll have to try digging in the backups, but I can't recall whether I bothered to put the profile file in the <include> list.

(When the new v68 had downloaded the headers I briefly saw some of the dross that my filters have been removing - <deity>, there are some very badly afflicted people out there!)

Anything useful here?

Can you not simply downdate again and stop it updating? I mean I'm still using Outlook Express. Brian

Thanks, that looks like it will be very useful - but it's too late to start now.

Yep, nothing more irritating than being shown a simple and easy way to do something after you have already done it the hard and difficult way.

True, but I meant it was too late in the day to start fiddling - I've lost too many nights to a quick tweak to a PC :-( I have now followed the guidance in the link ... and it worked (thanks to JeffL for the link!) BUT although it's set to not update it's downloaded an update and will probably install it when I next restart T'Bird. Is there any way to nobble the updater?

Yep, tools/options/updater "check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them"

It downloads, but as long as you don't hit the button it is fine.

See "Disabling Firefox updates" here:

That will lead you to a github page at:

I have no idea whether these policies work or not (I don't have Windows. I use Linux Mint which itself controls whether or not updates are available), but something there might do what you want.
