Hi,
I want to backup an outlook 2016 email account (emails) and believe I have done so correctly.
1) Sync (to get everything up to date)
2) Export mailbox to .pst, selecting the account root and ensuring 'and all subfolders' is selected and giving it a discrete name)
1) Now, this seems to create a discretename.pst file as expected, and the filesize is reflective of the size of the account, so far so good. However, when I go to open it again (on the same system), it appears to do so (no error messages) and indicates things like the number of unread emails in the Inbox but doesn't display any (at all). No filters are set that I'm aware of. The only way I can get it to display the messages is by going to the Views and changing it to 'IMAP' (which was indeed how that account was configured). The change of view does seem to stick so may only need doing once / datafile?
Is there a way of managing that so that all the emails are visible without having to change the view, eg, when I export the mailbox in the first place?
2) When I have done this Export > Re-Open process previously, when I have the .pst opened it displays the *filename* in the lh column, along with all the 'live' mail accounts. When I did it recently it just said 'Outlook data file', not so good if you have several open and want to easily determine which one is which.
3) If I wanted to keep the emails on the host for now but stop any further emails coming in, whilst also bouncing them with some sort of error message ('User / host not found' or whatever), do I remember something about the MS records being part of this and if so, what would I have to change to point the system to 'null'?
eg. If I simply delete the MX record, might it default to the right place via another record or setting (defeating the action)?
(As soon as I'm sure I have all I need backed up, I'll delete the host etc).
Cheers, T i m
