I don't understand much of this but I think you are saying that going to fibre for Internet access will mean that our landline will no longer work. If that is the case I am not interested. My wife does not have or ever intend to a mobile telephone.

The idea of having a range of external fibres, pre-terminated for the pole/manhole connector in e.g. 15/25/35m lengths plus a range of internal fibres pre-terminated for the ONT connector, in e.g. 1m/5m/10m lengths sounds relatively efficient for installation, choose the relevant pair of fibres and just splice them in the external box.

Normally, if you're splicing, the design has a splice tray to hold the slack. The splice tray also controls the bend radius. Like the fiber may be arranged in a lazy 8 in the tray, so that the fiber does not get bent too much. You start to get high loss, if bending fiber too tightly.
This is a ribbon splice, so not exactly the same thing BT would be doing, but it shows the use of heat shrink tape marking where the splice is. When loading the fiber into the splice tray,the tape would be centered in the tray for easy visualization of where the joint was made. The glass ends in this case, are melted by the fusion splicer (an electric arc provides the heat).

On the fusion splicer we used to use, there was a microscope so you could check the ends before fusing. You don't look in the microscope, while the fusing happens.
And you don't pick up fiber or fiber connectors and stare into the end. You use a power meter, to check for infrared (LR). It's similar to electrical safety. You never know what is eye-safe and what is eye-unsafe.
Raw fiber is dangerous. If it pokes your skin, a piece snaps off and enters the bloodstream, raw fiber can float all the way to your heart. Doctors hate having to remove that by shoving stuff through your veins and arteries to get at it. If a technician is actually fusion splicing on site, they should be very careful to snag all the scrap and carry it offsite. Cleaning up scraps is more than cosmetic - it's a safety issue.
That's why there aren't a lot of good reasons to be splicing in the home owner garage.

My wife arrived at work yesterday morning, it's a small rural company, she's first in most mornings. No internet, no phones, no mobile signal. She poked her head into a firm next door. Same story.
She ended up driving three miles to get a mobile signal to ring her boss. She also rang me, the call quality was abysmal, sounded like the lowest possible bandwidth codec.
Ironically she had to come home in order to carry on working. For a big chunk of the town, the exact opposite was the case

If you buy a completely new line then yes you will get exactly what you specify on that line - but have to pay them two line rentals. The default is now an "Internet only" connection with no landline phone.
I wasn't prepared to pay them two line rentals so once the fibre was fully operational the POTS line was always theirs for the taking.

Not necessarily that the landline will not work, but that it will become dependent on the optical fibre to function. This is fine under normal circumstances and results in a higher quality digital audio cf POTS.
If you get your FTTP service from anyone other than BT then you are likely to lose your landline number entirely. I was told by EE customer service that no-one wanted a landline any more so they offer full fibre as internet only. They helpfully put me through to BT sales when I insisted that I wanted to retain my existing geographic number.
Different rules apply to non-Openreach and high end ISPs like Zen/A&A.
The snag is that when there is a power cut POTS continues to work and fibre doesn't (unless you have backup batteries). Such batteries are in very short supply so vulnerable user rollout has been suspended.
