Nuisance calls near zero

Roger Mills formulated the question :

No number, no get through. We have had calls from the doctors surgery and yes it was witheld, they quickly realised and used a none withheld number to ring.

I've got several base stations. Added over the years. To change all to new with only one base would be very costly. Far more than the stand alone TrueCall unit cost.

No, but then I've never ever wanted to pick up calls to my home line when I'm out.

Since mobile phones were invented few people have need to. Not saying that a very few might want to but most people I know barely bother answering their home lines even when they're in.

And how is a wireless one going to work with no power to its base station? Have you fitted back up batteries?

We keep an old wired one plugged in under the stairs for that purpose.

I think you misread what I wrote. One phone is just a phone line powered phone, stuffed into a kitchen drawer, plugged in to the line with its ringer turned off. Usable if we have a power cut.

No point in getting a TrueCall then. Simply unplug the phones and save money. ;-)

An, you confused me with your none-wireless (as opposed to non-wireless). Well that's my excuse. ;-)

Our BT8500 has excellent sound quality for live calls and recorded messages. The old freestanding trucall unit had abysmal recording quality.

Not too worried about the recorded quality. More the 'live' that matters. One reason I dislike mobiles. So often they are dreadful.

I don't know about the old unit being obsolete but at ?100 it certainly isn't all that cheap.

Can the data from the TrueCall integrated into BT handsets also be accessed via the web interface?

From the little research I did, no. The beauty of the web interface is you can cut and paste a phone book list into it. It would have taken forever to enter all mine manually.

I have an old style TrueCall unit and find the web interface useful in several ways.

Nowadays we would probably expect the TrueCall unit to transfer its data direct to a PC via USB (but that wouldn't generate the manufacturers income from annual fees).

pamela submitted this idea :

I have not fully bothered to read the instructions, but no it is stand alone, no net access (BT8500). The only way to access its logs of inbound / outbound calls is via the phones own screen. It marks each with a time, date, type of call and how it dealt with the call, but not how long the calls lasted.

I had far too many calls from India - claiming to be BT support. Complained to BT, and they provide me with 4 x DECT phones and answering machine for free - it comes with their call guard system.

Not a single Nuisance call since installed - and free.

One thing is apparent - despite the high price the screening on the device is poor. Puts a loud buzz on the phone if alongside it. Which is exactly where most would situate it.
