Mold - Hardwood Window Frame

Nov 08, 2009 2 Replies

We have recently moved house and unfortunately it appears that the hardwood window frames in our bedroom have not been maintained by the previous owner. There is black mold and sticky black staining on the frames. The windows, however, are double-glazed and there is adequate heating and ventilation in the room. We would appreciate any advice on how to spruce up these (what would be lovely) window frames and maintain them properly in the future. We areabout to embark on the redecoration of the bedroom so would like to tackle the window frames first.

I'd try a cabinet scraper on them. This is a difficult tool for a new user though. It takes of a very very small amount of wood. R.

sand varnish and repeat and keep condensation off them.

You may not realistically be able to remove black stains from within the grain though.
