Mixer shower problem

Mar 29, 2011 4 Replies

Basically even with a full tank of hot water we only get hot water out of the tap and the mixer shower with only initially let out warm water for max

8 seconds then stay cold.

I'm no expert and am hoping some one may know why and how to fix it before its call the expensive plumber time.

Is the cold fed from the same source as the hot, ie the header tank? If the cold is fed from the mains and the hot from the header tank via the hot water tank, then the cold will be at much higher pressure than the hot and will dominate any water flow.

Unfortunately, the fix is to call a plumber to run a length of pipe from the header tank to the cold tap (unless this is a job you are capable of doing yourself).

JGH

Was it working OK previously?

Is it thermostatically controlled or not?

Biggles

hot and cold pipes reversed and the anti-scald protective thermostat shutting down the flow?

Funnily enough a friend of mine just described the same problem and also he is experiencing the same symptoms on a non thermostatic mixer tap/ shower. His is pumped though with hot and cold from tanks. The only thing I could come up with was a problem with the cold water supply to the hot tank.

Did you get yours sorted. What was the solution.

Thanks

Lee.
