Long necked automatic gate latch?

Jul 06, 2004 3 Replies

I'm looking for a long necked automatic gate latch. It needs to be long because of the size of the gap between the gate and post. The ones Screwfix sell

are too short and everywhere else I have looked they seem the same. I've seen longer ones listed on US sites but not in the UK.

So does anyone know where I can get one in the UK

TIA

Bad move imho. Closing the gate stresses this small component greatly. Extending it increases the stress imposed upon the fixing screws and either the latch will break or the screws will loosen/ be pulled from the wood. Use a bit of creative diy to decrease the gap between gate & post, then use a standard latch. Better still, use a decent method of holding the gate closed. have a few similar latches on heavily used pedestrian gates. Good, not brilliant, but far superior to the method you propose. The design allows for some adjustment as gate/posts move. HTH

Nic.

Buy the standard unit and find a blacksmith to make a new longer striker (or whatever it's called), using the short one as a guide?

I think your pc clock is needing adjustment.
