Just sharpen your saw. There's no wood that will laugh at a properly sharpened chainsaw. Yes - I've cut plenty of oak from buildings hundreds of years old.

The electric ones are slow moving, so they're slow going if the wedge needs to change position much. The tractor ones are quicker, but their speed of movement also makes me a little wary of them.
