Light fitting - same one blown twice now

LED type light fitting from Argos. Seems to be transformer inside. Blown tw ice now on same wiring. I'm thinking there is an issue with the wiring some where.

Its got 8 bulbs on. 4 had gone so I replaced them last night. First time of f/on and nothing. Its as if once its on full load its blowing it.

Not really keen on another £25 on a new light fitting for it to blow agai n.

Time to get an electrician to look at? Pretty sure when I had the kitchen f itted the fitter noted the wires were live when they shouldnt have been. i. e. downstairs lights off on distro unit.

Don't quite understand your description of the existing wiring problem, but I would expect a LED driver / transformer to be fairly tolerant of (say) modest mains overvoltage. It is all one unit, is it? If it was "separates" I would have said you might have too many lights for the driver.

And it seems a bit odd for four out of eight bulbs to have failed too. I'd be inclined to take it all back to Argos.

With the standard type of filament bulb one constantly blowing was usually a sign of a loose connection somewhere especially if you had a CU with fuses, these days an MCB is more likely to trip, but it is worth a check .

What is blowing on the fitting, the transformer? Might be badly designed and fail. Don't really know enough from what you say though.

To clarify, its a single light fitting with what looks like a transformer inside. There are 8 small halogen bulbs.

Yes, the bulbs keep going. This is not that big an issue. The problem is the whole thing (I assume the transformer) is blowing and thats the end of it.

It was working fine with just 4 working bulbs. I replaced the non-working 4 and it appears the transformer has now blown.

Could be crap dodgy product of course. But I've got two in my kitchen - one down the other end - identical. This has been fine. Now had two blow on this wire.

So now the LED bulbs have become halogens?

Graham.

So are they now 12Volt Halogens? Many fittings with a transformer have a fuse on the output to protect the transformer. I think you need to upload a photo or a link to the item in the catalogue and give a proper description of the lamps.

Deffo halogens. sorry for the confusion.

If they are halogens in a multiple fitting, it's not unusual for them all to blow at approx the same time from new.

Buy the replacements from a decent supplier like TLC - definitely not B&Q or whatever own brand which seem to fail within minutes.

Its not the bulbs that have blown. I've actually got two of these in my kitchen. One has been fine since day one. The other has blown twice.

I know its not the bulbs in the blown one because I've taken working bulbs out of the working one and tried these and then put them back. Its definitely the "transformer" thats blown.

Like I said, when it was 2/3 bulbs short it worked. I replaced these and it blew. So either its because it was overloaded somehow or one dodgy bulb caused it all to blow. If thats possible?
