I have a smart meter with an In House Display. It was provided by Eon but now operated by Eon-Next. I have economy 7 electricity but the display only shows one electricity tariff and charges everthing on it, at the day rate. Fortunately the bills charge me properly. The gas tariff though displays at approx 1/3 of the actual rate charged. Ive tried restting the IHD but it keeps coming up with the same ridiculous figures. Eon-Next seem very difficult to contact on a one to one basis. Has anyone got any ideas as to how my IHD can be set up properly so that the not so smart meter can at least show me the truth?

The IHD eon provides can only display 1 tariff at a time. I too am with eon on economy 7 and if you look at your tariff DURING the economy 7 period you should see the correct eco7 one displayed. It reverts to your day time tariff at all other times.
Are you sure it does not display the correct tariff if you look doing its hours of operation?
I asked this same question of EDF, and that is what they told me. The costs look correct, but I do think it a little odd that you have in effect no history of day and night, only real time. Mine is one of the talking ones, but I expect the innards and chip are the same. Brian
A common problem with IHDs. They can generally be trusted with consumption but rarely charges. You can sometimes get the IHD tariffs updated by your power company but I’ve never bothered.

Before mine went dumb after I left E.on, they used to send new tariff details to it each time I swapped to a new fixed deal. Now it's all 0.00s
Our IHD switches to our E7 tariff at 12:30 and then reverts back to the normal tariff at 07:30 every day.
When we first had it installed it didnt and I had to ask Octopus to sort it out.

It is in the gift of your electricity/gas supplier to send the right tariff information to the display device. If they don't do that then it will remain out of step with reality. Mine seems to work as expected.
Mine seemed to show the change in tariff at 1/10 very clearly. The big increase in daily use cost set off the over budget alarm on the Friday! I only have electricity since there is no gas supply in the village.
I don't know how they handle multiple prices but they could.
One thing that the government has got *completely* wrong is the way that they are applying the discount to every domestic premises unit of gas or electricity no matter much energy they use. It is a recipe for not getting the richest people to cut back on profligate energy usage since they can easily afford it with these over generous subsidies.
It would make much more sense to subsidise only the first £2500 worth of units at the discounted tariff. Most ordinary homes will stay below that limit (or it could be altered slightly to catch the vast majority).
Then revert to the punitive real world cost of energy for any excess. Otherwise the likes of Rishi Sunak's swimming pool (£25k/year to heat) is being subsidised by all tax payers under the present scheme.
The trouble with that is that older, solid wall houses cost a lot more to heat; people who are at home all day because they are elderly, disabled, out of work or have young children use more energy; those with children do much more washing and use more hot water.
My wife is disabled, so at home all day. We have three children, so lots of washing, but my wife is unable to hang it out and I am at work all day, so the washing is tumble dried for much of the year. There are multiple computers on, as the kids all have to do their homework online, then they spend time gaming, programming, talking to friends who live too far away to actually meet up with and I use the computer a lot. We cook with electric too. It means that, while our gas usage is only a bit higher than normal, our electricity usage is very high - and since my wife became disabled and had to give up work, there are five of us living on a single income.
While I can agree that subsiding such energy usage seems wrong, any cut-off point for subsidy will affect some households who have high usage due to size, age and construction of building; size of family; medical conditions; or the like and it is unfair to penalise them for usage over the average.
I doubt if computers have much impact on your electricity consumption. While their *maximum* consumption may be significant most of the time (even when you're using them) will be nearer to the idle consumption.
My 'old' not-very-green desktop machine that I retired a few years ago averaged around 40 watts, my present one is below 18 watts. My laptop which stays on nearly all the time is only 7 watts. At current rates it costs around £3 per watt per year. So my desktop machine would only cost a bit over £50/year if it was on all the time.
Not much to do with your problems really but I think people don't always *really* know what eats the electricity. I think it's probably mostly:-
Heating - if you heat with electricity Water heating - if you use a lot of hot water heated by electricity Fridges - on all the time (though not consuming continuously of course) Way down the list are things that the 'smart' (ha, ha) meter will highlight - kettles and cookers. They use a lot of watts for a short time but I don't believe they're generally big consumers, they're not on for long periods.
Gaming PCs take a lot of power - typically 200W for the GPU alone, plus maybe 100W for the CPU. And they do that as long as you're playing the game, which can be hours. The latest GPUs take 450W and CPUs 200W, so they're not getting any cheaper to run (although that is mostly because people are playing more demanding games).
Ovens do take power: eg to cook a roast dinner recently took £1 of electricity all-in - that's about 3kWh.

When idling or with low impact usage, yes. When gaming no, just a decent graphics card can take 150 to 250 Watts

Fridge and freezer - but both modern and reasonably efficient.

I notice an increase in the electric consumption during winter caused by the gas CH pump.
I live in such a house. Victorian engineering brick 3 layers thick with nice little round flints in them to blunt fancy new fangled core drills.
There will always be difficult edge cases but the principle remains the same that energy is now being rationed by ability to pay. The rich won't turn down their thermostats they will just pay the subsidised bill.
The policy would need to cater for those edge cases as best it can using disability allowance and child benefit as proxies. Just because something is difficult to do correctly doesn't mean you shouldn't try!
Do you measure its consumption individually? How much does it use?
C/H being on here adds 100W to electricity usage (measured by smart meter which is to nearest 10W) pump is *not* one of them fancy "eco" versions, gas valve and a relay.
My pump is 6 to 44 Watts depending on the differential pressure mode or fixed speed setting.
The very best of luck. Had smart meters fitted by SMS. When the fitter gave me the IHD (and explain how it worked, since there were no instructions provided) it only read the gas meter. And at the wrong price. He told me it would update within a couple of weeks.
It did update the price per unit. And that is OK. But still doesn't read the electric meter. Both meters send out the readings to the supplier though, and I can also see both on my phone.
I've lost count how often I've phoned SMS asking for a working IHD - and just get a different promise from them each time.
Not individually. Summer electric is < 1kwh/day whereas in winter it goes up to nearly 3 approx. We don't have any electric heating though the kettle might go on a bit more often.
I can't readily find the pump's power rating, it is a
GC number: E66539
I believe CH pumps use about 50watts so in mid-winter that could be around 1kw/day.
