How seriously are female posters taken on this DIY forum?

For any poster, mail, female, or anon, it's based on the quality of your posting history. We have had some expert contributors in their fields who have been female, lime plastering, water regulations, insect investations are some that spring to mind. OTOH, most the posters who have been mainly noise and no signal have been male.

Very seriously. I mean it's not all about plumbing and plastering. Sometimes we need advice on washing up and ironing too, or how to get those stubborn rust stains out and then it's quite handy to have a couple of girlies contributing :) {ducks and runs for cover}

Depends on how they behave, really... it's interesting that a female psoter will attract far more replies than a bloke, given the same Q. "DIYers" on the make... IMO it's all down to the reasonableness of the question and any responses. Vacuous questions and inane replies tend to be derided.

If no history, the reasonableness of the questions and general behaviour... everyone has to start somehere!

Fortunately there are only, what, two female and four male posters who fit this description. Um. Ratios not good.

I agree. You to figure out who are the senile and just plain stupid people. Some have very poor comprehension.

Is this a kind if sexism? Are we more tolerant of a female asking how to complete a task that we consider to be simple than we would if a male asked?

While others can't even string a sentence together.
