So you only have no sense of humour when things are actually funny?
Doesn't that strike you as odd?
Jim
No idea what it is.
I just see jpg and switch my brain off. Brian
Actually I'm sure everyone remembers Madonna's conical Bra? Well one university art graduate around that time mounted his representation of this on a stand, and put small headphones in the pointy end and it was kind of like a stereo horn system playing a loop of one of her hits. There are no records of whether she actually saw it or whether she approved. I remember at the time thinking how funny. Brian
You wouldn't know "subtle" if it s*it in your mouth.
No, that would impair HF response.
I assume this saying comes from the days of horn loadspeakers on wirelesses and gramophone players when that was the only way of adjusting the volume.
Nope.
A page of waffle with the answer in the last sentence.
Damn those experts showing their working, eh?
If your bed's against a wall and you do that you can bang your head.

I'm not a mouth breather unlike you so it wouldn't get a chance.

And corrode the voice coil.
Bill
Comes from orchestral horn players doesn't it?
Bill
We were at Sutton Hoo the other day. They demonstrated a windup gramophone with a horn hidden in the box. Quite loud. It had a door to cover the end of the horn for volume.

My grandad had one like that. When he went mental he bought some small plastic animals and glued them to the turntable. Then he set it to the slowest speed and sat watching it for hours; said it was a fairground ride.
Bill
You mean a mouth breeder?
FFS Tim, read this before getting offended.
No.
predates wirelesses. It appears to be WW1 miltary slang, and what you put a sock in was the mouth
I think the Wiki page you got that from is wrong.
