"Car tyres" are designed for what they're designed for. I have tyres which wouldn't last 4 laps of a track and are way grippier than any shoes. In fact, they pick up gravel, stuck to them (not in the treads - actually glued to the surface). But they aren't suitable for road use.
BTW, "BF Goodrich sandals" were commonplace in the Third World...
Yeah - I guess the user would have to run round the site at 70mph for a few minutes before using them :)
