Tried to fill my vehicle at a supermarket pay at pump....

The thing cut out at £120 and the tank was not full.

turns out there is a pre-authorisation amount on debit/credit cards of £120 if you use Pay at pump.

So now next time I want to fill the tank up to the brim, I have to pay at the kiosk!

Isn't selecting "paying at the kiosk" more like to result in bilking whereas with Pay at Pump, the garage knows they *are* not going to be bilked?

Stephen.

This is an indication of the success of our various governments recently. When I bought a car in 2000 the tank held £20 of petrol, it now holds £70 worth and I didn't have to do anything!

It was £100 until recently.

The garage only knows it won't get bilked because it has pre-authorised the £120. There have been complaints this is too high as if you don't have £120 available it won't let you put any in. So if you only want 10 litres or a couple of gallons you need to have a £120 or pay at the kiosk

So its a compromise, Its high enough so most folks can fill up what they want yet it doesn't stop too many filling up a small amount.
