Dust extraction adapter(s) for power tools?

I have quite a few power tools with orifices intended to take a dust extraction hose; and I'd like to attach them to my vacuum cleaner. However, all the tools, and the vacuum cleaner pipe seem to be of different diameters - none will mate up.

I find this particularly odd considering the vacuum cleaner, orbital sander and electric plane are all badged Wickes - I asked at the store about this, and was greeted with shrugged shoulders. (They started off by claiming that the orifices weren't intended for dust extraction until I fished out an instruction manual. God, it was like being at B&Q!)

So can you buy a gizmo anywhere, or set of gizmos, which will connect my hoover outlet to the tools?

Thanks David

do a handy slightly-flexible rubber adaptor, whose catalogue reference is NUMRED (type that into their search box on the homepage and you'll see it). It's a fiver a throw, give or take; you might manage to get more than one tool's worth of Adaptation with one, though.

Be careful not to add another 140 quid's worth of irresistible tool purchases once you get the Axminster catalogue, mind :-)

Yes there is. Axminster Power Tools do one.

Did they suggest an alternative use for the orifices?

I have a couple of the adapters mentioned by Stefek and Andy, and they are very handy things to have. Millions of uses. Well, maybe hundreds.

Another vote for the Axminster doo-dad. I've also found on a couple of tools (mostly my saws) were the spigot on the tool same size ID / OD as the end of my hose - i.e. they butt up to each other but one won't go over or in the other. So either a short length of waste pipe (32/40mm, can't remember which) or a section of the cheap vacuum hose extension pipe (standard thing down you local vac spare/repair shop) makes a suitable "gender-bender" adapter.

I seem to have collected quite a lot of these adaptors. One set (about 4 or 5 pieces) came with a cheap Betterware fluff-picker-upper - the things with the one way velvety stuff on them. Another set came with the gadget that sticks to teh wall under suction while you drill through a small opening, thus catching the dust.
