Degreaser ?

I have and I think they lasted a bit longer but not much. It may be pot luck what you get and how solvent proof they might be.

I think you are right and in most 'engineering' type scenarios I consider that a good thing (when using other cleaners that don't, any bare metal surface left unprotected for even a short time can go rusty).

Depending on how heavily greasy the parts were and what you wanted to do with them once cleaned, I would initially clean them in paraffin to get rid of the bulk of the grease / dirt and then wash / wipe them with a lighter solvent like brake cleaner, panel wipe or acetone pre painting or gluing etc.

petroleum fractions each cover a range of boiling points, so the oilier fractions invariably evaporate slower than the rest. So you may notice some transient oiliness.
