How does it take three *years* to work this one out?

I'd imagine this is why he only got the small sentence and costs. After all, it must have been obvious straight away from the pong if nothing else. What were the engineers doing for three years?

It doesn't say how often he did it over those three years, might have been only twice. Also we don't know who was doing the repairs/maintenace, what the support contract involved and how good their record keeping was/is.

There's a howling gale blowing through most datacentres and various smells from the aircon units and humidifiers - I think you'd struggle to notice the 'pong'.
