coving adhesive

I'm removing coving around my flat, in preparation for making good. But how do I get rid of the blasted adhesive? The options I can see are:

1. Hack at it.
2. Sand it.
3. Treat it with some chemical which would make it easy to remove.

What's the best way to do this?

Brick Bolster and Big Hammer. Then give it all a BigWallop. Usually works. :-)
