Composite door side 'feathering'

I have fitted five new internal doors and just got around to the painting of them. Four worked out fine, but the edge of one door has done what I can best describe as 'feathered' during the painting. The paint has lifted the wood grain such that it has produced 'feathers' down much of the door edge, where it is hidden by the frame when closed.

I'm now looking for a best fix for the problem? Chisel the feathers off, use wood filler, sand and repaint - or some other solution?

Are you using water based paint?

I guessed that, surprised you got any of them to stay put.

I hate the stuff. Somebody did my banisters with that and its going soft just wihth the moisture in the house from a couple of humidifiers. Brian

Only to be expected I'm afraid.

Next time prepare bare wood with sanding sealer and give a light rub with the finest of glass paper 240 or finer and then put your horrid water based stuff on top.

And to answer your original question, I would sand down the feathers, rather than chisel them. You might need to do this again after repainting.
