Car alarm even without battery

I now realise I didn't nudge the lever - I didn't cancel it after turning left out of my side road onto the main road then immediately left into another side road then immediately left into the parking space facing the kerb, so no automatic cancellation.

As far as I know, if you park on the road where there are no street lights or facing the wrong way, you are supposed to show lights at least on the road side of your car, red facing the oncoming traffic and white the other way. Once upon a time you could buy little lights showing red one way and white the other which you could plug into the cigarette lighter socket and shut in the window on the traffic side of a parked car. Maybe the facility your car has is a more modern version of that?

I remember such clip-on lights being given to my dad one xmas, never remember them being used though ...

That's ok if your cigarette lighter socket, or whatever it is called these days, stays powered when the ignition is off. A lot of them don't.

Might be worth trying the OBD socket.

Like mine, which powers the dashcam. If I leave the car for more than a few minutes, it powers down, so the dashcam does not record if anybody attacks the car while I am in Morrisons.

No, the rule is you must not park facing the wrong way, after dark. The problem being if you see white lights on a vehicle, you naturally aim to pass the lights, with them to your right in the UK.
