It appears to have firewire, CVBS, and SVideo outputs, so as long as it can feed a live preview to one of more of those then "yes"
I have an XL1 from a project I was running many years ago. I can't seem to get a miniaure recorder with firewire connectors. I hope eventually to use it for real time recording, bypassing the tape facility.
Portable recorders with firewire in seem thin on the ground these days. You may be able to find something like one of these second hand:

Startech still do a firewire card with a Mini PCI express interface, so that could be hacked to run on most laptops by swapping out the wifi card for the firewire. (the trailing lead assembly with firewire connectors will take a bit of carful handling though!)

(an ultra small form factor PC that runs from a DC supply might be a better bet)
