Burglar Alarm Blues

My burglar alarm has not been activated for at least nine years and itis unlikely I will want to use it in the future. It hasn't beentouched, serviced, tested or examined in any way either. The onlybenefit it gives are two blue flashing lights on the bell box on thefront of the house. It seems to be a generic no-name type and was installed by a previousowner. The only information I have on it are a few photocopied sheetsfrom which I gather that at current electricity prices it's costingover eighty quid a year just to sit there. There is no declaration of any burglar alarm in my house insurancepolicy so is there any reason why I shouldn't just switch it off?To switch it off, do I just have to remove the fuse from the mainsconnection and let it run down? I don't even know if the back-upbatteries are still viable - would that make a difference?Thanks!(Real name obscured because there's no good reason for telling BurglarBill and his mates who I am and that I don't use my alarm)

No, and I don't think there was any intention of doing so. The original spec was 240 +/- 6%, so the just changed the voltage and widened the limits to include all the likely voltage you would find in Europe. So the only thing that needed to change was the range of voltage tolerance for new appliances.

Likely that is the absolute maximum, with the alarm sounding, not the normal base load.

Assuming that the 135ma is the base load.
