Building site H&S query.

Most large building sites have H&S regs strictly enforced - even for visitors. Steel capped safety foot ware, hard hats, goggles, gloves, high visibility jackets, arms and legs clothed etc. And rightly so. On say a Sunday or holiday with no workmen on site or any work being carried out do these regs still apply?

Yes. Even with no workmen around you could, for example, still step onto upwards pointing sharp objects, so protective footwear is necessary. Must be lots of other examples.

(Instructions to wear hearing protection apply when posted, and not just when loud sounds are present. These and other notices are the result of formal and recorded Risk Assessments.)

And certain risks will increase - there may be no first aiders on site, or if the vehicle gates are locked it may impede rescue vehicles.

So yes, if you're going thieving on sites you need to wear your hi-vis otherwise you might get prosecuted by HSE :-)
