BT NTE/5 with user data extension

The latest NTE/5 incoming wall boxes have two internal IDC connectors, one for the users house extensions and an additional IDC for an extension data pair.



Is this just unfiltered signal, ie the same as what comes out of the ADSL/VDSL port on an inline plugin filter ?.



If so, what sort of wall connector would people use at the end of a twisted pair connected to the BT data IDC connector, prior to connecting to the ADSL/VDSL modem/router with the standard modem cable ?

So, that link is for something that has no internal components ?.

A slave BT wall socket still has some extra circuitry (AFAIK), but just lacks the ring capacitor (Is that correct) ?.

There are proper wall plates with RJ11 sockets but they only seem to fit european-style wall boxes, from what I can see.

I've got one. It has screw terminals under a clip on cover to connect the 'input' cable. It's from the US, I screwed it on to a skirting board

In which case go for an RJ-45, and just plug the RJ-11 double ender into that.

They don't need any - it is not a star topology, just a straight extension lead.

I think that is the standard sized BT extension socket box too.

If you use RJ45 instead, you can buy modules and modular faceplates that fit a normal UK back box.

I haven't seen these but would guess it's unfiltered. I'd guess you have one port which is the external line, and another port being the hookup to your extensions.

In normal ADSL style operation you'd plug in a faceplate that route the external line to the ADSL to the RJ11 on the front, and reinjects filtered voice to the extensions.

In 'digital voice' operation, you'd have two ports on the faceplate, one to the external line for the router, and a link to route the VOIP port on the router back into the extensions.

I'd guess in both cases there's a ring capacitor on the extension part of the faceplate.

DSL cables are usually RJ11 to RJ11. I'd keep it RJ11 rather than RJ45 to stop somebody accidentally plugging ethernet in there.

It's best practice yes, but I don't think (providing wiring is all correct and standard) you shouldn't be able to blow anything up sticking an Ethernet cable into a 'phone line' RJ-45 ? It's standard practice to use RJ-45 sockets for POTS in structured wiring 'office' environments ?

Yes, and up to 100Mpbs they don't share the same conductors
