The TA4 RF thermostat on my son's heating has totally failed. Can somebody tell me what wireless thermostats are compatible with that receiver. Ideally one that allows temperatures to be programmed by time of day and maybe even day of week.

Sorry, I missed the receiver off. It is a British Gas WR1, I need a thermostat which will talk to it.

ISTR that the BG WR1 was a rebadged Drayton Digistat[1]
So that may well be one.
(most wireless stats will come with their own receiver, and it is a fairly easy swap in most cases to connect a different receiver to the boiler).
