Indeed. But that was not the point I was replying to. Which was about how to charge EVs parked on the street.

If talking diversity, the same applies to charging cars. Not everyone will need to charge one from empty to full every day - or indeed in as short a time as possible.

I'm well aware about diversity. Which can apply to charging EVs too.

Cant you afford to let him live in a house? Even if it's yours?

then please explain /how/ substantial numbers of EVs can be charged at home in addition to existing use without increasing the ADMD

Any answer you get will be a hand wavy 'the wind is always blowing somewhere' sort of response.

The actual figures that suggest that gas and road fuel together are about 65% of UK energy consumption show that the grid needs to double or treble in size to go 'zero carbon' and the figures that show that this is completely unsustainable using 'renewable energy' are conveniently discarded.

Yes, massive investment to double the local networks. Not just tapping all the EV chargers into the existing network.

That's not a swinging or telescopic gantry, extended when needed. Its just a traditional pump against the wall.

Not everyone is cooking their dinner at the same time (or are even at home). Quite a lot will also be cooking with gas.

You're the one that needs glasses if you 'think' that either of those two pumps have a swinging or telescopic gantry, extended when needed.

In fact they just have a hose like the current pumps do.

Bearing in mind that in your first reply you said it was "just a traditional pump against the wall", when there are two pumps on an island, neither of them against a wall, my comment was more than justified.

I'll let others decide which of us is right, and whether those two long overhead arms swing out as needed, or whether "they just have a hose like the current pumps do".

That's another diversity issue, and as you say, one that's rather suspect.

However, given that the street wiring in much of the country is sized for 2kW per premises, and they don't burn out very often, we can conclude just from that evidence, that substation->premises diversity does in fact work.

Just like the 15kW diversity in my house works (I haven't blown a main fuse, ever) but if I added even an entry level 7.4kW EV wallbox I think it probably would [blow the fuse]. I'm investigating getting it upgraded to 100A as a result.
